We encountered this non-corporeal creature in The Squire Of Gothos. She's one of the flashing lights in the image. I'm not sure if she's the one on the left or the one on the right.
She and her mate, Trelane's "father", confronted Trelane at the climax of the episode, and scolded him for the cruel way he was abusing his "pets" (referring to Kirk and the others aboard the Enterprise). Thanks to this timely intervention, Kirk and his people were saved from certain doom.
How and why non-corporeal creatures have gender and "children" was never explained, but one thing is certain: Trelane's "parents" are equal partners in their relationship. They had to combine and present a united front of parental disapproval to convince Trelane to let Kirk and crew go free.
