Yeoman Tamura was a trusted and valued member of Kirk's landing party, in A Taste Of Armageddon. To begin with, she was the Keeper Of The Tricorder in this episode, a task that would normally fall to Spock.
Tamura is a plucky and fearless gal. Even when they were kidnapped and incarcerated she showed no fear: she kept her dignity and behaved professionally through the whole episode.
At one point, she was handed a pistol, and was ordered to stand guard over the recalcitrant Mea 3. Judging by the confident and pugnacious "Try Me!" stance that she adopted, you can see that she felt herself to be 100% equal to the task.
