Sayana and her lover Makora were two of the "people of Vaal", in The Apple. They witnessed Ensign Chekov making love with Lt. Landon, and this inspired them to imitate the acts they had seen.
Sayana stood very still and allowed Makora to hesitantly, tentativly offer her a couple of kisses. She obviously enjoyed it a great deal. She gave Makora a big smile, and told him it was pleasent.
When tribal chief Akuna discovered them, he rebuked them in Vaal's name. It was because of this incident that Vaal asked the men of his people to kill Kirk and his party.
