Playboy Spock: Blond Magnet!

by Laura Goodwin

Didja ever notice that all the chicks who deeply dig Spock are blond? First there's Nurse Chapel, who has the unequivocal, unrequited red-hots for Spock. In Plato's Stepchildren they are forced to kiss, but she would have gladly done it anyway. She's a blond.

There was the sizzling Zarabeth in the cave (All Our Yesterdays). Woo hoo! Eatin' meat and hiding under the fur blankees with Zarabeth! Spock definitely got laid. Some say she was a redhead, but she looked blond to me.

There was the tall, cool, elegant Droxine in Cloud Minders, who was openly and frankly attracted to Spock and interested in his sexuality. Blond as they come.

Don't forget good old Leila Kalomi in This side of Paradise. We are allowed to believe Spock got laid then, too. They had known each other before, and she had carried a torch for him for a long time. She might be called a redhead, but looked pretty blond to my eyes.

Spock must have thought when he first met Rayna (Requiem for Methuselah) that she was interested in him for more than his mind. After all, she wouldn't be the first blond who was practically humping his leg within the first five minutes.

I have a theory about Spock's behavior in the Way to Eden episode. When Severin and his band of gypsies first beamed aboard, they had among them a cute, very blond girl. It's possible that Spock and her locked looks, Spock saw her eyes get wide, and he thought something like this:

"Hot dog, hooked another one! Let's see what I can do to impress her favorably."

He was making good headway. She didn't mind him sitting right next to her as they made music together. Weren't they a cute couple? Couldn't you just see it?

Spock was busier than Kirk between the sheets. You want a love 'em and leave 'em guy? Look at Spock! Even when he won T'Pring fair and square in battle, he dumped her. He had his reasons, and she wasn't too broke up about it, but technically, she was the dumpee. She was, most emphatically, not at all blond.

Spock, a half-human, is apparently sexually viable between Pon Farrs, and obviously Pon Farr is not potentially fatal for him as it would be for a full-blood Vulcan. Spock is pretty plainly not attracted to being married. He cherishes his independence. He's probably the first Vulcan man who even had a choice. He's certainly the biggest swinger the Vulcans ever produced. A Vulcan playboy!
