The Women Of Star Trek: Mea Three

by Laura Goodwin

Mea 3: Loyal Eminiarian (Barbara Babcock)

The coolly elegant and aloof Mea 3 was the first Eminiarian official to greet Captain Kirk's landing party in A Taste Of Armageddon. We are never told what her title or role is, but she definately was part of the inner leadership circle at the top of society on Eminiar.

Mea 3 was never Kirk's girlfriend. She didn't seem to be anybody's girlfriend. She certainly never showed the slightest interest in Kirk. If anything, she seemed to dislike him. She seemed to dislike him, and the horse he rode in on, and his friends, and the horses that they rode, as well.

Mea 3 was a brave, loyal, patriotic, highly intelligent and deeply moral Eminiarian woman, who believed very deeply in her culture's way of doing things with utmost sincerity. When Kirk tried to convince her that the Eminiar/Vendikar war was being handled incorrectly, she disputed the point, and argued quite reasonably and persuasively in favor of her culture's ways. When Kirk begged for her help to do something that she obviously thought was wrong, anyway, she seemed to recognize that he was a man who could not be reasoned with, and she clammed up. She stonewalled, and refused to cooperate.

Realizing that she wouldn't ever be useful to them - that in fact she'd probably just get in the way - Kirk left her in the cell they escaped from, with Yeoman Tamura standing guard over her.

To Kirk she was unhelpful, but to her own people she would be a patriot and a heroine.
