We met phaser control officer Angela Martine in Balance Of Terror. Martine had been poised to marry fellow officer Robert Tomlinson, but their wedding was interrupted by the news of the attack on the Romulan Neutral Zone outposts. Sadly, Tomlinson was killed during that episode.
The Martine/Tomlinson wedding scene well established that there are no regulations against relationships between shipmates aboard the Enterprise.
Martine is apparently religious. At the wedding ceremony she knelt briefly at the altar, but her husband-to-be did not. After his death, she returned to the chapel to pray. Kirk met her there, and they shared an utterly platonic hug of consolation.
We saw Martine again, when she went ashore early in Shore Leave, with fellow crew member Esteban Rodriguez. She was apparently killed by a WW2-era airplane making a strafing run. Martine was later restored to health by the planet's Caretaker.
She also appears in Uhura's seat in Turnabout Intruder. Obviously, Martine is a very adaptable, versatile lady, who handles tremendous difficulties with uncommon grace and courage.
She was liked and even loved by her shipmates, but for the record, she was never Captain Kirk's girlfriend.
