The Women Of Star Trek: The Dolman Of Elaas

by Laura Goodwin

Crybaby Elaan (France Nuyen)

We met her in Elaan of Troyius.

Elaan was being carried by the Enterprise to the planet Troyius, for an arranged marriage intended to bring peace to the two warring planets. The flight was deliberately slow to give Elaan time adjust to the idea, and to learn Troyian-style manners.

The willful Elaan at first strongly resisted having this humiliation forced upon her, and she fought, fought, fought against it. For example, she stabbed the Troyian ambassador that dared to try to teach her some manners. She left no doubt in anyone's mind that she did not freely consent to this arranged marriage, and that she was against the whole idea.

She made everybody who opposed her absolutely miserable (you GO GIRL!).

Kirk thought she was despicable and disgusting. She was exactly the kind of woman that he likes the least. She was savage, violent, uncivilized, vain, and selfish. In short, she is a pure and perfect bitch.

She touched Kirk with her magical tears, and while he was under the influence of this biochemical assault, he hugged and kissed her a couple of times. BUT it's made totally explicit that it's her tears that made him like her. He otherwise would have had nothing to do with her. Face it: the second she tried to convince him to do rotten things to prove his love for her, it all fell apart.

Kirk was able to overcome the effect of her tears simply from the sheer force of pure repugnance that he felt for her and her evil ideas. BTW, they never had sex, because they never had time.

After the Klingon's attack, Spock sees Elaan hanging around on the bridge, questions her need to be there, and Kirk agrees that it would be better for her to leave. Kirk gives Spock the conn, and escorts Elaan to sickbay.

On the way, she asks Kirk if he'd really rather see her wearing her wedding dress for another man.

"Yes, Elaan", he answers.

[NOTE: I'm not kidding. That's his answer.]

After she had exhausted all of her other possible options, she finally seemed to accept her fate.

BALONEY! You know as well as I do that as soon as her new bridegroom is touched by her magical tears, that he'll become her love-slave, and etc., etc., etc.! She's not finished at episode's end. Heck, she's just begun!
