Nurse Christine Chapel began her medical career aboard the U.S.S. Enterprise. She set aside a career in bio-research to search for her lost fiance, Dr. Roger Korby. In What Are Little Girls Made Of?, she locates Korby, but at the end it is revealed that the real Korby has been replaced with an android double. After that heartbreak, Chapel decided to remain with the Enterprise.
When infected with the Psi 2000 virus, in The Naked Time, it's revealed that Chapel is carrying a torch for Mr. Spock - an infatuation which remains unrequited. Spock rejects her politely in Naked Time, and in Amok Time he rejects her violently and most impolitely. Chapel finally seems to get the message.
In Return to Tomorrow, Chapel temporarily housed Mr. Spock's consciousness to keep him from being destroyed by Henoch. She clearly got a kick out of sharing her body with him, but it was a totally non-sexual situation.
In Plato's Stepchildren, Chapel was forced by the powerful telepaths of that world to kiss Spock, but she didn't enjoy that at all, and neither did he.
Her odd taste in men never interfered with her professional duties. She is obviously competent, and also seems to be well respected by her shipmates. Chapel was one of the regular characters and she appeared at least briefly in many episodes. Generally she is an intelligent, brave, and dependable lady.
